James Whyte is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who's been a well-known part of Edinburgh's acoustic music scene for the best part of twenty years. Although a seasoned and capable solo performer, he feels music is more enjoyable when more than one person is involved. As such he's perhaps best known for musical collaborations and helping organise live music events, including The Listening Room.
"I wasn't even meant to be on this album," he says. "I was in the right place at the right time: a trick I seem to keep pulling off in life." During a rare quiet moment helping out at the recording sessions for this album he was handed a guitar and told "go play". The result, this rendition of a very old song he co-wrote in his university days with long-term friend and then bandmate Steve Williams was, we decided, worthy of posterity and inclusion.
